I live in Arizona. I am near-sighted and wear glasses. I love the style of my glasses, but I get way too much sun in my eyes from above the frames and from the side. I have progressive lenses, but they are not dark enough. I’ve had clip on lenses but they don’t provide the coverage (top and side) I need. I am looking for sunglasses that fit over my regular glasses. I found one pair, Cocoons, but they weren’t dark enough. Another pair was not comfortable over my glasses. Do you have any suggestions of brands to look for or the best place to find them?
Lisa,
I feel for you. But I think wearing sunglasses on top of regular glasses is a terrible solution. It adds excessive weight. Add-on shades are almost always optically terrible, thereby negating the optics of your glasses. Even if they were okay optically, you’re still adding an extra layer of lenses to look through, and that’s never ideal; it creates reflection problems, for one thing. If you’re active, your eyes and face will get too hot and your lenses will fog up. Plus, let’s face it: The whole setup is really geeky looking.
Much better is to choose good sunglasses with good eye protection and a good Rx program. Oakley, Kaenon, and Maui Jim come to mind. They make prescription lenses for many or most of their models, including progressives. A bit of an investment, but your eyes are worth it. Let me know how it goes.
